Bon Dance at Dojō 盆踊りを道場で

What I realized I missed in Japan after going back during this summer in 20 years was the festivities of summer festival.  The day we arrived at Matsumoto City in Nagano happened to be the day of “Matsumoto Bon Bon Festival”, which one of the largest in Nagano.  The whole city danced the same tune and my soul was so touched by it that I couldn’t speak.  Then I had an idea.

I wanted to dance with my dōjō ninjas.  I really wanted to feel the community oneness together with them.

My day has come.  The dance was called “Tankō bushi, ” a very well-known dance tune about mining.  The kids class and adult class joined, as well as some parents. With easy movements, they got the dance quickly and we all had fun together.

I didn’t tell anyone what I was planning to do that day.  I enjoyed wearing Yukata (summer kimono)  first time after moving to California (so it must have been over 4 years). I purchases this one with asagao (morning glory) in Tokyo during this trip.

I think my surprise was a success. Thank you everyone!

２０年ぶりに日本の夏に帰国して何が楽しかったって、夏祭り。たまたま長野県の松本に到着した日が、「松本ぼんぼん祭り」という長野県では最大級の夏祭りの日で街全体が一丸となって踊る風景に圧倒されながら、涙をずっと堪えて魂の感動を深く深く味わっていたのでした。そしてどうしてもアメリカに帰ってたらしたかったこと。

それは、道場で盆踊りを踊ること。どうしてもこの一体感をみんなで味わいたい。

そうして楽しみにしていた日迎えることができました。

割と踊りの意味もわかりやすい炭坑節。
子供クラスと大人クラス合同で、親御さんたちも参加して。
皆さんすぐに覚えてノリノリで踊ることができました。
実は「プレゼンさせてね」とだけ先生に伝えたものの、内容は誰にも言わずに内緒で登場。浴衣も今回東京の清澄白河の呉服屋さんで大好きな朝顔柄をチョイス。

サプライズ、成功しました。みんなありがとう！
