New Year Calligraphy in Kids Class 子供クラスの書き初め

The kick off of Japanese class started from New Year Calligraphy. 

This was the first time I tried calligraphy in kids class. The class was only 30 minutes until December, but starting January I extended to 45 minutes with the request from the students.  I am so excited to be able to include other hands-on activities in this class.

We were studying about zodiac since December.  So the word of this year’s animal “いのししーinoshishi” was familiar to them, but learning hiragana is touch as they’ve been studying katakana.

They practiced with magic water sheet first, then finished up with sumi ink to take home.

I was very amazed by their determination and skills to write not only in hiragana the first time, but also with a brush with the larger calligraphy format paper.  They did great showing their confidence. I can’t wait for the next time!

1月最初の日本語クラスは、書き初めからスタート。まずは子供クラスから。

実は子供クラスで書のクラスをするのは初めて。今までは３０分のクラスでしたが、子供達のリクエストもあり1月から４５分に伸ばしたため、これからはハンズオンのアクティビティもたくさん取り入れられると、私もワクワクしています。

子供クラスでも干支は12月から伏線を張って触れていました。今までカタカナを主にやってきたので、ひらがなは初めて。水かき書道で練習して、最後は墨で仕上げました。

ひらがなも、筆も初めてという状況で、八つ切りを堂々と書き上げた子供たちのパワーはやっぱりすごい。今年もよろしくお願いします。
