Origami Fish Craft 海の仲間

We all have summer plans so during the summer months, I have been hosting Origami Studio every other week at the dojo. The theme of the second one in July is fish! We made goldfish, angelfish, and crab.

Before folding papers, we completed the background with Japanese sumi-e style (ink painting). The children got a little tense when I handed out brushes and ink. But as soon as I mentioned a few tips and showed them how there is no “one correct way” to do it, they were much relaxed and their creativity took over to come up with their own ocean background!

While it’s drying, we turned to our origami. I had origami papers with patters and with different sizes. The students were encouraged to choose however they pleases their imagination. They even invented their won sting ray to add to their aquarium! 

They expressed the striped angelfish with polkadot patterns, their fish placed out of the aquarium paper— it was a good reminder that the creativities and imaginations the children have are so amazing that I don’t ever want to place any limitations.  I prepare samples, but it’s more for my reminder for conducting the class.

I encourage my students to go beyond my class frame work and discover their own world of possibilities. 

夏の間は生徒さんそれぞれ夏休みの計画がおありなので、隔週で「折り紙スタジオ」を開催しています。7月の2回目は、水の仲間。金魚、エンゼルフィッシュ、カニです。

折り紙の前に、まずはバックグラウンドの水の中を墨絵風に仕上げました。小筆と墨を配ると少々緊張気味。見本を見せながら、墨絵のコツやポイントをお伝えすると、大胆に筆を動かし個性的な水の中が出来上がりました。

それを乾かしている間に折り紙。模様ありの折り紙、サイズも四種用意して子供達に自由に選んでもらい、折り進めます。途中、エイの作り方が閃き、その場で作ってしまう生徒さん！

エンゼルフィッシュのシマシマを水玉で表現したり、お魚がバックグラウンドの水の世界から飛び出していたり、子供達の発想、創造力はすごい。私の小さな型にはめたくないので、見本は一応用意するけど、自分への覚書みたいなもの。

これからもどんどん型を破っていってね。
