Takoyaki Sample Making in Osaka! アメリカまでお持ち帰りできるたこ焼きはここ!
When you say Osaka, I say Takoyaki. When you say Takoyaki, I say Dōtonbori.
Takoyaki is Osaka’s soul food. Takoyaki is grilled dumplings with an octopus piece in it. There are many Takoyaki eateries on the main strip of Dōtonbori that even I, a person grew up in Osaka, cannot decide which one to try.
大阪といえばたこ焼き。たこ焼きといえば道頓堀。大阪ミナミのど真ん中に何軒も並ぶたこ焼き屋さんは、地元の私でも目移りしてしまうほど。
I planned a visit “Konamon Museum” (powder base food museum) the next day I arrived in Osaka in effort to minimize the jet lag. It’s on the 3rd floor, inside the Takoyaki eatery “Kukuru”, where I can make Takoyaki food sample.
そんな中、時差ボケ対策の為、敢えて帰国の次の日の予定に組み込んだのが、アメリカまでお持ち帰りができるたこ焼き、「たこ焼きサンプル作り」を開催している「こなもんミュージアム」です。蟹やフグや龍の看板が目印の道頓堀ですが、たこの看板はたこ焼きの「くくる」さん。
The first floor is store front where skilled cooks steal the eyes of visitors by their flawless takoyaki making skills. The second floor is the table seats and educational history panels of powder base food are on the walls. The third floor is where the sample atelier “Maneki Takō”, pun intended for inviting happiness and inviting octopus), is located. I love this pun. So clever.
一階は店舗、二階はテーブル席。そして三階はサンプル工房「まねき多幸」の会場。粋な名前はさすが大阪、さすが日本!
The room has long tables for about ten people. One experienced instructor leads the way. We repeat pouring hot wax into molds, then cooling, while adding toppings. Colors are painted at the end.
長テーブルに座り、10人ほどを一人のお姉さんが手際よく仕切ってくれます。蝋を型に流し入れ、冷やし、を繰り返しながら、トッピング、そして色付けをしていきます。
The finished Takoyaki are placed in a display case (included in the price) to take home. English instruction is available. How about visit here to experience Osaka next time? Don’t forget to eat the actual Takoyaki on the second floor to learn about history, too!
