Setsubun in Adult Class 大人クラスの節分

In Adult Japanese class, we dug deeper to the tradition and the customs of Setsubun.

Japanese people have always been putting special meanings and wishes into foods and natures, using puns and colors. Setsubun traditions started around 1400 and developed with slight differences depending on the regions. Sharing these details really gives me great joy.

At the end of the class we also sang the children’s song “Oni’s pants” —the pants of evil spirit, and ate futomaki together. I really loved the silence and Inness we shared while we ate.  We also tasted the fukumame, the fortune soy beans.

大人クラスではより一層節分の慣習や意味を掘り下げて学びました。

日本人は色々なものに意味を込め、意味を掛けながら願い、生きてきました。それを紐解き伝える時、私の心は本当に喜びます。

クラスの最後には大人も一緒に「鬼のパンツを熱唱」。太巻きをご用意してみんなで頂きました。この一体感が心地いい。福豆も一緒に。
