May Calligraphy Class 5月の書のクラス

​I have been trying to decide what to write for May calligraphy, but decided on “Daichi—大地ーprairie or vast earth”. May is the month of new sprouts from ground and tree branches. I wanted my students to feel new life and the new energy from the earth as they practice this.

As did last month, we challenged ourselves with two characters. “地ーearth”, being one of the five elements, is also the kanji character the students are familiar with, they were so quick to catch on the focus points of the character. They even excelled in the very difficult hook in the last stroke order. I am so proud of them!

It was this students’ third calligraphy class. She hooked the first stroke of “大“ instead of to stop. But she kept on and the end product was amazing—she made a perfect “Tenchi 天地ーheaven and earth” by accident. It turned out to be a wonderful art work which happened to align with the event of her life, she told me.

“Daichi—大地& Tenchi 天地” expands our dreams.

5月はどんな字にしようかとずっとあれやこれやと試していましたが、「大地」

に決定。新芽が出てきて山の木々も伊吹はじめる5月。

新緑を感じながら大地のエネルギーをいただきましょう！という意味を込めて。

今回も二文字に挑戦。「地」も「武」と同様、普段のトレーニングで見慣れているからか、みなさんコツを掴むのがものすごく早くてびっくりしました。最後の難易度が高いハネも力強く完璧。どんどん上達されますね！

そして、今回書は三度目のLさん。お清書で「大」の一画目のトメが跳ね上がってしまったんですね。でもそのまま書いて仕上がりを見ると。。。なんと！「天地」に！！「天地」もとてもいい言葉ですから、それはそれで素晴らしい作品になりました！

「大地」と「天地」。夢が広がります。
