The Hiragana Game

The Hiragana Game

I know my students are very keen on awareness and senses of their surroundings as I have 3 black belts of Ninjutsu in my class. They polish this skill day in and day out.

So I tried something I wanted to do for a while— to guess the Japanese syllabary system, Hiragana, letters written on their back.

I was predicting it would be challenging, but they prove me wrong.  The result was mind-blowing!

They wrote it perfectly on their partner’s back as I showed them what to write, and they guessed it perfectly almost each time.

I was so impressed given that they started learning Japanese about 6 months ago with 3 month summer breaks (except one who has taken classes in college). They had no idea how to read or write 50 letters of alphabet then.  But now, they can read, write, and even know the letters written on their back?

Amazing.

I am blessed with very talented and dedicated students. They make me want to be a better instructor and to exceed their expectations.
